Membership and Privileges

Thank you for your interest in our organization. We are pleased to offer membership to investigators, residents, fellows or post-doctoral trainees (MD and PhD) from the United States and around the world. GRG seeks to address your educational needs in all spheres of digestive disease research, extending from basic science to translational, to clinical, and to outcomes research.

Full Membership – All investigators engaged in gastroenterology and hepatology research. Full members are eligible to vote and may be elected to office or appointed to special committees. Annual dues $60.00.

Trainee Membership – Any resident, fellow or post-doctoral trainee (MD or PhD) who has completed at least two (2) years of postdoctoral training and is continuing in a trainee position in either gastroenterology or hepatology. Certification of trainee status required. Eligible for steering committee participation as trainee representative. Not eligible to vote or hold presidential office. Annual dues $25.00.

Benefits of Membership

State-of-the-Art Conferences and Symposia: We sponsor an exciting program of symposia and workshops, both at Digestive Disease Week® (DDW®) and as stand-alone events. The GI Outcomes Course in the Fall continues to be a huge success. GRG members receive advance notice of these educational offerings, and enjoy free or discounted registration.

Young Investigator and Trainee Awards: GRG members are eligible to compete for several fellow travel awards (both domestic and international) to the DDW meeting each May as well as the Abstract of the Year prize. In addition, the GRG awards two Young Investigator Awards, one for basic research and one for clinical research which are highlighted at the GRG Spring Symposium at DDW.

Social Network of Scientific Colleagues: GRG members have access to a social network of scientists to promote the exchange of cutting edge scientific information, to enhance the flow of scientific communications and foster partnerships between basic and clinical investigators, The network of the organization’s senior membership provides young investigators with a listing of potential mentors.

Expedited Publication of Manuscripts in Digestive Diseases and Sciences: Digestive Diseases and Sciences (DDS) is now the Official Journal of the GRG. Under the editorship of Dr. Emmet B. Keeffe, the quality of publications and the impact of this historic journal of gastroenterology research is on the rise. As a member of GRG, your accepted manuscript will be immediately available as an epub and will appear in the next issue of the print journal, avoiding a wait time of 4-6 months.

Becoming a member of the GRG is simple and inexpensive. The GRG is dedicated to promoting and expanding and the science of gastroenterology through clinical and basic research. This organization is also committed to raising the level of interest and excitement for research in digestive diseases among trainees. In addition to the benefits listed above members receive the GRG newsletter twice a year, which provides important information regarding important issues in GI research and opportunities for research funding.
